Posted on September 18, 2009

The miswak (miswaak, siwak) is a little teeth cleaning stick made from a twig of the Plant known as Peelo, Khabbar, or Scientifically Salvadora Persica

The Miswak is mostly used by Muslims of Pakistan & India and the middle East. It is said that Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) used it before every prayer to clean teeth.

It is pulled from the root of a Shrub known as peelo which grows in the wilderness in Pakistan and also parts of middle East.

Use of Miswak for teeth has spread from the Middle East to South and South East Asia also, where it is known as ‘Kayu Sugi’ (Malay for ‘chewing stick’).

Miswak has proven to be an effective antiseptic and has great medicinal value for tooth aches too.
