Posted on December 5, 2009December 5, 2009 By Jamal Panhwar 1 Comment on Boat Builders of Karachi

Karachi is city of numerous artists and working men. The city although has not been promoted as such by the local media and the government of Pakistan has a lot to offer for tourists.

One of the most hidden secret of Karachi is its boat building Industry. The gient wooden boats which are made in Karachi almost solely by hand with minimum machines are exported to Dubai for transportation as well as for making Dhow Cruise Dinner restaurants in Dubai Creek.

The picktures below show how the boats are built by artists with plain tools and they had working hands.

I would like to know how much it would cost me to build a 19th century two masted schooner of maybe 30 tons in the shape of an Italian TARTANA out of wood.
    Thank you.
