Pakistani film producer who was in the lime light of media recently due to her nomination for Oscar has finally won the prestigious Oscar Award for her documentary film “Saving Face”.
Sharmeen Chinoy was presenented this award at the 84th Oscar Award ceramony. She has become the first Pakistani to have ever won the Oscar.
“I dedicate this award to all those Pakistanis who work against the acid affected women in Pakistan” Sharmeen said after receiving the award. She also dedicated the award to the central characters of the film “Saving Face” who include plastic surgeon Dr. Mahmoon Jawad, Rukhsana & Zakia who were effected from throwng of the acid on their faces
In her message to all women in Pakistan who are working for a a change Sharmeen said do not stop dreaming.
Sharmeen Obaid had also won the prestigious Emmy Award Earlier. She is the first Pakistani to have ever won a Oscar award. She comes from the southern city of Pakistan Karachi. Her film the saving face is a documentary on the subject of acid thron women in Pakistani society and runs around a british born Pakistani doctor who dedicated his life to save the women of Pakistan who get their face burnt due to throwing of acind on them for several reasons.
Sharmeen has taken on a brave subject and has at the same time sent a message of hope for all the victims. It was more than just a personal achievement. Her message now resonates among millions and she has brought so much awareness!
