ISLAMABAD, Aug 1: The National Highway Authority (NHA) has resumed construction work on Lowari Tunnel after the authorities concerned gave security clearance to the foreign constructors working on the project, it has been learnt.
Work had been suspended about four months ago due to security threats and because of the operation launched against militants in Swat and Dir.
An NHA official told Dawn that the army operation had ended and the areas had been secured.
He said the project which was to be completed by mid 2010 might suffer delay due to the four-month halt in the work.
Austrian and South Korean engineers and construction experts are executing the Rs10 billion project.
Work on the 100-kilometre long route, located at an altitude of 12,000 feet, started in 2005. He said excavation work on the tunnel had already been completed
