A Hog Deer sanctuary and observatory hut has been established at the Pai Forest while community-based shrimp and crab culture ponds have been created in Keti Bandar under the Indus for All programme.
The achievements were discussed by the sub-committee of the Indus Eco-region Steering Committee (SCIESC) at its 12th meeting. The committee was formed in July 2007 to help implement the Indus for All programme and to advise the Indus Eco-Region Steering Committee on actions they should take. The Indus for All Programme aims to conserve the Indus eco-region?s rich biological diversity with the help of local communities. The meeting was chaired by Sindh Forests and Wildlife Department Secretary Mushtaque Ali Memon. The programme manager, Khadija Zaheer, and coordinator Nasir Ali Panhwar told participants about how much progress had been made. They also discussed implementing a natural resource management plan.
Panhwar explained that a ?livelihood development plan? has been started at Keti Bandar, Keenjhar Lake, Chotiari Wetlands Complex and Pai forest. They have also set up information and conservation centres to raise awareness. He also discussed deforestation and water logging at the Chotiari wetlands.
