KARACHI, Jan 18 (APP): Chairman Gwadar Port Authority, Rear Admiral (Rtd) Ehsan Saeed has said that about 1007 ton of Urea and 63,000 tons of Wheat has already been imported at the Gwadar Port since it became operational.
He also pointed out that project of Gwadar Port Authority was launched in 1974 and regular work on it started in the 90s and was made operrational in 2007.
He said the Port has the capacity to handle Panafax ships. The Port has the depth of 14.5 meters while that of Karachi port is 11.12 meters.
He informed that six ships berthed here few days back and five more are ariiving during the current week carrying 344.226 million tons of wheat.
Admiral Ehsan said that completion of Gwadar Port will cost 248 million dollars and will be fully functional by 2015.
To a question Chairman GPA claimed that 89 percent of port employees are locals.
He said that plan for construction of an Expressway here is under consideration while a Gwadar Port Civic Center will also be constructed with housing and business centres.
