After many years of fierce brutal fight in which mostly innocent Muslims died, it looks like USA and Taliban have agreed for talks, but where is Pakistan who has suffered the most is standing?
Pakistan’s concerns after the statement of Afghan President Hamid Karzai shows that the business is not as usual between the two countries.
The diplomats in Islamabad belive that this friend ship must go beyond mere protocol.
According to them it is time to make this friendship meaningful. The uneasiness of Afghanistan is possibly due to the expectations of Afghans from Pakistan which they believe are not being met.
In this regard Afghanistan Authorities say they had demanded three things from Pakistan but nothing is being done for any of the three demands.
Their demand No. 1 is that Islami Tehrik’s founder Mulla Abdul Ghani who is imprisoned in Pakistan must be released.
Demand No, 2 is that a conference be organised with participation of both countries’ Ulema (Islamic Scholars) where Jihad may be suspended and suicide bombing may be prohibited by Fatwa (Islamic law)
Demand No. 3 is that messages from Afghan Government may be sent directly to Taliban
But Pakistan has said that in Past dozens of such prisoners have been released but there was no gain rather those released went and joined the Taliban in war
Government in Islamabad says that no prisoners can be released any more, because every one of them goes back and talks about fighting again, and never joined any peace talks, thus there is no use of releasing any more prisoners.
Sources n Pakistan say that Afghan president is actually speaking the words of his opposition.
It was apparent from the recent statements of Afghan president that he is suspicious about the intelligence agencies of Pakistan. In reply foreign ministry of Pakistan has said that all agencies institutions of the country and the government are all one and have the same view for foreign policy.
Afghans do not have any hope from Nawaz Sharief either, one Afghan official says that its not Nawaz Sharief’s government its the institutions of Pakistan with whom they have problem.
For Afghan Authorities possibly the biggest concern is the increasing relations of Pakistan with the northern alliance, they smell a new conspiracy in that too.
We have been told Pakistan is trying to cool the past wounds but its more than that. Reason of this is the arrival of northern Alliance leader in Pakistan without any information. When this leader was asked about his visit to Pakistan he said he had come for medical treatment, but his travelling in ministry of foreign affairs car from Islamabad airport only further develops complication and doubts.
Afghans think that Pakistan is crossing the “Red Line” they want to know after all what are the concerns of Pakistan. Whay is Pakistan doing all this and why is Pakistan preferring uneducated Talibans on educated Afghans.
According to some journalists its actually mater of mistrust which not only in Afghans but also exists between the two other parties Americans and Taliban. After so many meetings and so many efforts they have not been able to trust each other and result is that Afghan government has pulled itself out of the negotiations in Qatar.
