The siting of the famous writers, poets and scholars in Lahore commonly called “Pak Tea House” is being renovated by the Lahore district government and will be open to public from 25th October.
The Pak tea house was favourite siting of Lahore’s scholars poets and writers since 1940s. The tea house had the honor of hosting regular tea to towering personalities like Intizar Hussain, Ehsan Danish, Habib Jalib, Qateel Shifaii, Saleem Shahid, Younus Adeeb, Ahmed Rahi, Ashfaq Ahmed, Ahmed Nadeem Qasimi, Amjad Islam Amjad & Syed Asghar Nadeem.
Pak tea house was established before 1947 partition and was called India Tea House which was later renamed as Pak Tea house when it was purchased by its owner Mr. Sirajuddin, after the demise of Mr. Sirajuddin his son Zahid Hussain ran the tea house untill year 2000. It was closed because of financial reasons by Mr. Zahid Hussain in 2000.
The Lahore city district government took up the project to reopen the tradition tea house and started restoring the building in April 2012 with a total cost of Rs. 3200000. It is now nearly ready to open. The renovated Pak tea house has 2 floors and has a capacity of 60 persons.
YMCA has been given the contract of running the tea house and the building has been leased to YMCA for 10 years at no cost.
According to City district government Pak Tea house will stay open from 7AM to 7PM and will serve tea cookies etc.
