When Afghanistan, Pakistan and Darfur make the news it is almost always with stories of atrocity, war, refugees, death and dying. Quite regularly stories of humanitarian activities and the enduring kindness of a majority of the ordinary people in these extraordinary times gives way to vivid accounts of the tragedies that have resulted in so much misery for so many. That’s why “Enough To Go Around: Searching for Hope in Afghanistan, Pakistan & Darfur” by writer and photojournalist Chip Duncan is such a welcome documentary showcasing men and women, although having to reside in refugee camps and/or who have had family members slain, yet refuse to give in to victimhood but hold out hope and endurance and simple acts of kindness. I just finished reading a recently released book by Chip Duncan, an award winning documentary film maker and writer with Foreward by Jennifer Buffett, “Enough to go around”: ‘Searching for hope in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Darfur’.
It is the story of a journey, Chip undertook with compassion in these war and earthquake ravaged areas in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Darfur. The book is illustrated with his masterful photography and powerful images of a people whose smiling faces among death and destruction challenge the readers to explore deeper meaning of life. Most importantly at its core he talks about hope he found not only among the people facing hardship but also he witnessed hope among the aid worker, which in turn gave him hope.
This is an incredibly powerful and inspirational book which deeply touches one to one’s core, especially those with Pakistan connections among us.
The narrative is heart wrenching, heart warming, inspiring and springs one to action. Our colleague Dr Salman Naqvi is lauded for his humanitarian work as he worked with Chip, Ben Kingsley and Mike Speaks.
By simply buying the book you will be supporting charitable causes directly related to empowerment of women and girls as 20 % from the sale of the book will be going to the those causes.
Buying this book is an act of charity and compassion. You will be pleased that you did. I highly recommend this book.
