Product Description
It starts with murder in Manhattan. Before long, Nellie Mackenzie and Taylor Jackson find themselves at opposite ends of the Karakoram Highway. Nellie is headed north through tribal Pakistan, where vengeance killings are a way of life. Jackson is headed south along the desert routes of western China, where smuggling national treasures is a capital offense. Nellie and Jackson are antiquities dealers. They were once husband and wife. Now the unsolved murder lies between them. Making their way across the vast historic landscapes of Central Asia, their companions are murderers, lovers, and a treasure trove of Tang Dynasty statuary. Everyone on this modern Silk Road is seeking justice for betrayals they’ve suffered. No one knows where their sense of honor will take them. Death lurks at every turn. Susan Barrett Price researched this novel during her own road trip through Central Asia, traveling the borderline between wonder and insanity.

Bought this book when I searched for “Silk Road” and originally thought it was an historical novel or diary type book. I was wrong but wasn’t disappointed, it’s a good read.

Please, can I have my money back. Go ahead and buy this if you want to read about stupid characters acting stupidly without the slightest redeaming qualities. You will not learn anything about China, Pakistan, the silk road, the art market or anything else. I would be amazed if the author travelled to any of the places mentioned because you could easily write this book without ever having done so. And every character is a twit. The author may be a woman but the female characters are the biggest idiots in terms of the action. Save your money. I could not even finish it the book was so bad.
Rating: 1 / 5
Passionate, riveting, and full of exciting twists and turns, this story engages the reader from start to finish. Jackson and Nellie captivate our attention as their tumultuous journey unfolds with plenty of danger, suspense, and intrigue. Susan Price delivers her first brilliant thriller leaving us wanting more!
Rating: 5 / 5
The suspense starts on page one where the characters immediately come alive and carry you on an unforgettable journey. The plot moves swiftly forward through vivid, descriptive, precise prose. The characters are complex, and the twists and turns which determine their destiny keep you riveted from beginning to end. Although the action takes place on foreign terrain, the author makes it possible for you to easily visualize the landscape and the action therein.
I hope a sequel is in the works!

This is one of those books you hate to put down. One of those everybody-leave-me-alone-and-just-let-me-read books. Save it for a vacation or when you have a nice block of time for just reading. As another reviewer suggested, have a map. I was poolside during this thriller and felt a little lost without a map; wanting to learn even more about this crazy adventure of these well-crafted characters (I later found a neat map at […]). This plot is fresh, timely and thought-provoking on many levels: cultural differences, marriage-as-it-matures, family trust & obligation issues, soul searching passions (for people, things or prestige?), and, of course, the intrigue of the art world underworld. After finishing the book I still think about the characters. This book would make a fantastic movie. I think it is a first class novel.
