The River Indus has a long history and at Sukkur it has been probably the most active in Past. The island of Bukkhr was here which later developed the city of Sukkur in 12th century. The Baba Bankhandidi of Sadh belo is also here and this was also the narrowest part of the River Indus hence the English made first barrage at this point in 1932. The sukkur barrrage is is the beginning of the longest irrigation system in the world known as the Indus food system, which is 38000 miles of irrigation canal.
